Fundraising Guide

The Band Fee only provides a portion of the budgeted amount needed for each band student. The remaining budget comes from booster fundraising events throughout the year. Some people believe that the school, district, or state should fund the band programs. Wouldn’t that be great? But it isn’t a reality in Texas yet. So band programs must largely fund themselves.

There are two basic types of fundraisers:

1) Selling Items
2) Volunteering time

Parents, we need your help to Support the Band!

Selling Items.  The Raider Band will sell various items during the year to raise funds.  These fundraisers will typically include:  Cookie Dough, Cases of Coke Products, Pampered Chef, Catalog Items, etc.  A percentage of the gross sales (usually 40-50%) will be deposited into the student’s account.  Participation in these fundraisers is optional.  They are arranged to provide opportunities for students/families to raise funds to help pay the annual band fees or saved toward the out-of-state spring break band trips during even-numbered years (i.e.  2010, 2012, 2014, etc).

Volunteering Time.  The Raider Band Boosters will participate in service activities that yield funds through payment for time worked.  This type of fundraiser is the largest portion of the budget needed to operate the high-caliber Raider Band.  Some of the activities that require volunteer time include:  Concessions at NISD sports, the February music educators convention downtown, the November Spaghetti Dinner, and concessions at UIL band contests and Raider Band “Tailgate” events.

OTHER KEY POINTS:

· Volunteering time to help at fundraising events is a great way for parents with difficult weekend schedules to help the band.  There are several events throughout the year with volunteer needs during weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, as well as weekends.
· Volunteers are asked to wear a red shirt (preferably a Raider Band Booster shirt) and black pants for public events.  A variety of shirts are sold by the Spirit committee at the monthly parent meetings in the band hall and during the 1st quarter of Taft football games.
· Student fundraisers are always optional.

Other fundraising efforts not listed here may be scheduled as needed
