REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

4 FEB 2008

 

President Bobby Flores called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. in the Taft High School A-2 Band Hall.  A quorum was present.

 

President’s Announcements.  Bobby Flores mentioned all the hard work the fine arts department is putting into the Taft H.S. production of the musical “Annie” and the first place award that the Drumline received at the January 26th competition.

 

Minutes.  Nan Danheim motioned to accept the 8 January 2008 minutes.  Denise Lopez seconded, motion passed.

 

TMEA:  Volunteers are still needed for to monitor the TMEA convention on Thursday, FEB 14th and Friday, FEB 15th, in the mornings.  This one of our largest fund raisers, please sign-up on the website NOW! 

 

Fund Raisers.

a) Concessions: Concessions do not end with football season.  Volunteers are needed for basketball, baseball, soccer, and track events.  We will be fined by the NBA if we show up late or do not provide enough people for concession duty.  Alice Bernal is looking for a new chair to this committee to shadow her for the rest of the year for training purposes.  Check the website for sign-up times and locations.  We need help on MAR 7th for two baseball games and on MAR 27th for a girls track meet.  

b) Spring Barbeque Dinner/Rummage Sale: A new date for this fund raiser will be needed due to conflicts with Drumline and Colorguard competitions.  APR 19th will work for now.

c) UIL 4A & 5A competitions.  Taft H.S. will host these competitions on 9-10 APR and 15- 16 APR.  Boosters will sell hotdogs, hamburgers, etc…See Bobby Flores for this fund raiser.

d) DC Contest.  Taft H.S. will sponsor this event.  We need to supply a hospitality room and a meal for the judges.  See Bobby Flores to sign-up for this event.

 

Budget.  Andy Greene discussed the budget and how next years budget will be completed before we break for summer.  He is looking for a replacement for this position.  Contact Laurie Holmes if you would like to be the next Treasurer.

 

Band Trip.  Money for final payment has been sent.  IMPORTANT: there is a mandatory meeting on 4 MAR 2008 for all parents that have kids going on the band trip.  This is a must attend meeting.  Your child will not go on the trip if the meeting is missed. 

 

Nomination Committee.  Laurie Holmes is looking for volunteers to assume the position of Treasurer and 2nd Vice President.  Nominations will be accepted during the March Booster meeting with elections taking place at the April Booster meeting.

 

Freshman Parent Camp.  Will take place on 20 MAY 2008.

 

Storage Container.  Approved by the District.  The slab for the container is next to the BIG trailer.  Bobby Flores and Andy Greene will go ahead and select the container.

 

Band Banquet Committee.  Committee has met and location selection/caterer is in progress.  Alice Bernal motioned that the banquet be held at Padrotti’s Ranch and that the Boosters pay $25.00 toward each Band member’s meal - meals to be selected from the $25.00 menu.  Kathy Etz seconded, motion passed.  Marcella Conte said that the same photographer that did the Senior Night photos would be available for the banquet.  The committee will finalize gifts, decorations, DJ and assorted costs.  A 30% deposit will be required so inquires will have to be made into how many parents and students will attend.

 

 

 

 

 

Band Director Report.  Mr. Solis said that the Long Ranger megaphones are repaired and that a new one will not be needed at this time. 

Purchase of a piano with District funds is a possibility.

Donations this year were very generous.  Mr. Solis would like to return the money that the cymbal girls contributed towards the new cymbals owned by Taft.  Each girl donated $200.00 so the school could purchase new cymbals.  He will give the girls one week to respond to his offer.  Rene Jacob motioned that the Boosters reimburse the cymbal girls up to $200.00 each for their contribution towards the Taft cymbal purchase, less any outstanding band fees.  Nan Danheim seconded, motion passed.

Monday is the UIL Solo & Ensemble contest.

 

Project Lend-A-Hand.  Ida Hernandez presented a program called Project Lend-A-Hand from Jackson Hewitt.  A $20.00 voucher is available towards a tax return preparation from Jackson Hewitt along with another $20.00 donation to the Taft Booster organization for each tax return submitted with the voucher. 

 

Nan Danheim motioned that the meeting be adjourned.  Denise Lopez seconded, motion passed.  Next regular meeting of the Taft Band Boosters will be 4 MAR 2008 at 7:30p.m. in the Taft Cafeteria.
