Danny Solis,
begins his 32nd year in music education in 2009.
Mr. Solis came to Taft High School from the South San Antonio Independent School District,
where he taught for fifteen years at West Campus High School. He was in charge
of the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Colorguard and Showchoir studies in music.
His bands at West Campus were among the top 3-A Bands in Region XI as was
the Showchoir at various music festivals.
A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Solis graduated from Harlingen High School
in 1974. His band director was the now retired Johnnie Lee, while studying trumpet
under Roger Harms, music supervisor for the Harlingen Independent School District.
Solis attended Sam Houston State University where he received his BME in 1978 having
studied trumpet under Tom Parriott and Director Emeritus Dr. Ralph Mills. In 1987
he received his MS with Administrative Certification from Texas A&M University at
Kingsville.
Mr. Solis spent time as a vice-principal and principal with the Seguin Independent School
District, but returned to the podium and continues to develop one of the finest music
programs in South Central Texas.
Mr. Soils has been named to the Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 and most recently was awarded the National Honor Society Merit of Teaching after being nominated by his students.
Mr. Solis was nominated as Teacher of the Year in 2006-2007 and
2009-2010 and presently serves as the Fine Arts Department Coordinator.
Mr. Solis’ professional affiliations include: Texas Music Educators Association, Texas
Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, Texas Music Adjudicators
Association, International Association of Jazz Educators, Phi Mu Alpha Music
Sinfonia, Phi Delta Kappa, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of
Texas Professional Educators and the Association of Texas Small School Bands.
Mr. Solis is married to Judy Lynn, wife of twenty-nine years and has two children Brian and Alexis.
