WHAT IS IT?  Like everything in Texas, the TMEA Convention is BIG event!  Each year more, than 20,000 music teachers and students from all over Texas attend, not including the students who will participate in the Texas State Honor Band, Orchestra, and Choir concerts in the Lila Cockrell Theater to end the convention on Saturday.  Part of the convention includes booths to accommodate several hundred vendors who will fill 3 of convention halls in the HB Gonzales Convention Center to sell instruments, sheet music, software, marching programs, uniforms, repairs, teaching aides, fund raiser examples (with samples!) and other music related items to TMEA members.

  
WHAT DO WE DO?  Raider Band parents perform a variety of support functions during the TMEA conference over 4 days in mid-February.  We check passes at the entry doors to the Exhibit Hall, we monitor entry and exit at all the other doors into the Exhibit Hall, we assist the TMEA Officers during the Conference, we line-up the parents and friends prior to entering the Lila Cockrell for the All State Honor concerts, we direct the State Honor bands, choirs, and orchestras to the changing rooms, the rehearsal rooms, get on and off the stage, get photographed, and then get to their respective receptions.  We basically help out, guard doors, help the attendees, and have a good time!

WHAT DO WE GET ?  The TMEA organization pays the Taft Raider Band for the volunteer work our parents and students provide during the convention.  Besides the annual band fees, the money received from this yearly event is a major part of the Raider Band budget, accounting for almost ¼ of the funds the band boosters use to support our high quality band program.  We also get a lot of positive notoriety throughout the Texas music community which sees our parents serving the music community by helping with their event.
